Riding in Cars with Kids

by mrstoyreporter on December 4, 2008

In the blue mini-van that we call home for more time day than I like to think about the brothers sit in the back and the princess sits in one of the middle seats. Until recently the princess was facing backward towards her brothers. She kept a collection of baby dolls, books and snacks in her lap as we drove and this kept her occupied between car naps. Now that she is 20 pounds (finally!) she is facing forward. I think she likes the new view, (the windshield wipers were very exciting for a few days). Now, however, I need to hand her everything because her nice little lap space is gone. I think we may need one of these Star Kids Snack and Play Travel Trays.

She can put her toys and books and snacks on the tray in front of her and not have to ask me to take everything as soon as she is done, which, I suspect, will lead to much safer driving.

I have used this for the last couple years for my now 5 year old granddaughter. It is wonderful. It keeps markers/pencils from rolling off, firm enough base for snacks or pieces to spread out, books opened up and not slip off the lap, but soft enough to be safe in case of an accident. Had to get one for Mommie’s car too! We highly recommend it!

You know–you don’t have to turn her around just because she’s 20 pounds. In fact, they are recommending keeping children longer than the minimums these days.

That’s the exact car seat tray I am hoping to get for my son for his 2nd birthday.
