Just goes to show you that just because a toy is wooden or labeled as “organic” it doesn’t mean it’s necessarily good or safe.
Earth Friendly announced the recall of three of their MAYA Organic toys today, which are sold in specialty stores in Alaska, California, Colorado, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington from April 2008 through September 2008.
Apparently no injuries have been reported, and it’s unclear if the problems were found during company testing of their quality control process or through CPSC testing.
The Recall Wanted List:
Cubby: The ears on may come off after use and abuse testing. Replacement heads are currently being shipped and all the new replacement heads have been tested to ensure that Cubby’s ear glue exceeds any use and abuse testing.
Moee: It is possible for some of the toys to break into parts on repeated dropping; these parts can then pose a choking hazard. And if your kids are like our kids, things like this frequently get rolled right off the table onto the wood floors.
Bell Rattle: The handle on some of these toys fails the test for projections. The CPSC sets up standards for how long a toddler toy can be if it can fit into their mouth. This is to prevent the issue where the toy can get thrust back into the throat and cause injury during a fall.
Let this be a reminder to all you out there to check any toy you give to your child (or anyone elses child for that matter) and decide for yourself if it’s fully safe.
